These Are 6 Reasons You Should Eat Chocolate More

Feb 15, 2019 | ARTICLE, ARTIKEL, News

Remember when you were a kid your parents used to blame chocolate for your tooth cavities or your stomach-related problems? However, there have been multiple research proving otherwise. Instead of causing health problems, chocolate is actually very healthy.

You must have ever heard about how chocolate can reduce stress and boost your mood. But there’s a lot more that chocolate can do. If you have just the right amount of chocolate, especially dark chocolate, these are the 6 things that can happen to your body:

1. Lose weight

While it is often associated with obesity, dark chocolate can help you lose weight when consumed in moderation. In addition to having less sugar and lower fat, dark chocolate with 70-85% cocoa contains pretty high fiber. A research conducted in the University of Copenhagen shows that dark chocolate has similar satiety effects to guavas and apples.

2. Improve vision

According to a study done in Texas, USA back in 2017, 80% of its participants did better on the eyesight test after consuming dark chocolate. While admitting that the study needs further evaluations, the research leader said that dark chocolate can increase blood flow to retina, and subsequently allows the eyes to gain more oxygen and nutritions to improve the vision.

3. Improve brain function

Not only can it reduce stress, the flavonol in dark chocolate can also help improve blood circulation in the brain and boost your intelligence, though only in short term. Additionally, chocolate can help improve cognitive function in older adults with mental illness.

4. Prevent ageing

Antioxidant-rich dark chocolate can slow down ageing by preventing wrinkles in your skin. The flavonol in chocolate can also protect your skin from sun damages, improve blood circulation to your skin, and keep your skin elastic and dehydrated.

5. Fight bad cholesterol

Dark chocolate can lower the number of bad cholesterol LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) in the blood, while at the same time increasing the number of good cholesterol HDL (High Density Lipoprotein). So by consuming enough dark chocolate per day, you can lower your risks to develop dangerous diseases caused by bad cholesterol.

6. Lower diabetes risk

As we know, diabetes happens when the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin to process all the sugar in the body. But you can lower your risk to get diabetes by regularly eating enough dark chocolate, which will stimulate the pancreas to naturally produce more insulin.

So who says chocolate can’t be healthy? While we’re still in Valentine’s Day mood, try having chocolate to sweeten your days. But remember to keep it moderate.
