Drinking tea is probably one of the things that you always do on a daily basis. Despite many tea-based beverages out there, including Tarik Tea that’s popular in Singapore and Malaysia in addition to Indonesia, as well as Thai Tea which as it’s name suggests originated from Thailand, there are only 4 variants of tea: green tea, black tea, white tea and oolong tea.

While it doesn’t have as many variants as coffee does, tea surprisingly has as many benefits for the health as coffee does. What are they? Make sure you read until the very end to find out what tea can do to your body when consumed routinely.

1. Fighting Bad Breath and Mouth Problems

You may have heard that just like coffee, tea has something in it that causes yellow teeth. The fact is, tea helps fight bad bacteria in your mouth. It keeps your teeth and gum healthy, and helps cure bd breath.

According to some studies, green tea has something called catechin that reduces the number of acidic bacteria in the mouth, and subsequently slows down the formation of dental cavities. Additionally, another study conducted in Chicago shows that the poliphenol in tea can also control the number of bacteria causing bad breath. Plus tea has anti-inflammatory properties that may keep various mouth problems, especially ones related to the gum.

2. Improving Memory, Focus and Concentration

Tea is also said to be able to improve your brain function. A study says that the caffeine and L-Theanin naturally found in tea can help improve your memories and concentration, though only for a short period. When you’re not in the mood to do something, try having a cup of tea so you can be more focused during work or when doing your assignments.

3. Curing Food Poisoning

Aside from killing the bad bacteria in the mouth, catechin in tea can also prevent or even cure food poisoning. It may kill various bacteria related to food poisoning, including bacillus cereus caused by the wrong cooking process or the wrong food preservation. Catechin can also minimize the dangerous effects caused by those bacteria.

4. Helping Lose Weight and Anti-Ageing

Tea isn’t only beneficial for your health, but also for beauty. Tea may lower the level of cortisol, which is stress hormone that may lead to more fat in your belly and wrinkles on your skin. According to a research, 4 cups of tea per day can reduce the appearance of cortisol, resulting in slowed down ageing process as well as slimmed down body.

And speaking of slim body, tea can also increase metabolism. Multiple studies show that with the help of green tea, you can burn more calories, up to 70-80 calories per day. It indeed isn’t a significant number, but try to count how many calories you will lose in one month just by regularly drinking tea during the period.

5. Treating Puffy and Tired Eyes

Your eyes can get tired too, especially after spending hours in front of computer or smartphone. Refresh it using the caffeine from tea. Just put two bags of tea into warm water, and put in in the freezer for a few monutes before you use the bags to cover your eyes for 5 minutes. The anti-inflammatory effect of tea can also cure puffy eyes and conceal dark circles around your eyes.

6. Reducing Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a pretty serious health problem. The higher the level of cholesterol in your body, the easier it gets for you to develop various diseases, including ones related to the heart.

A study from China states that tea can help reduce cholesterol. It says that people who adopts low fat diet and complete it with tea can averagely eliminate around 16 percent more bad cholesterol compared to people who only adopts low-fat diet

The antioxidant in green tea is said to be able to help prevent various types of cancer. At this point, the types of cancer that can be fought by tea are still unclear.
