Don’t Do iI! These 5 Sports Are Not for Obese People

by | Jun 8, 2024 | ARTIKEL, Healthy Article, Update

In addition to paying attention to the food consumed, people with obesity are usually also advised to exercise to burn excess calories. But apparently, not all types of exercise are suitable for people with obesity!

Obese people are strongly discouraged from doing high impact sports like those that involve running and jumping. Such sports include soccer, volleyball, jumping rope, marathon, and even jogging.

Sports that Obese People Should Avoid

People with obesity or overweight shouldn’t be doing the exercises because their weight puts great pressure on joints like the knees and ankles.

In addition, obesity is also closely related to cardiovascular or heart problems. Too intense body movement might instead worsen their heart problems.

Then what sports should obese people do? Here are 5 of them!

1. Walking

Walking is the easiest and cheapest way to start moving. It can be done anytime and anywhere. And importantly, walking can help burn more calories without putting too much pressure on the joints. You can say this sport is very safe to do.

2. Swimming

When in water, the body becomes lighter. So we can move and burn more calories without putting too much strain on our joints and bones. If you can’t swim, don’t worry. You can try walking in the water for a lighter but still effective calorie-burning workout.

3. Lift weights

Lifting weights boosts your metabolism, so your body can burn more calories. This kind of exercise can also increase muscle mass and shape the body.

Don’t be sad if this exercise doesn’t immediately affect your weight. Since muscle weighs more than fat, it’s possible that the scale will instead show a higher number. But on the inside, you lose body fat and gain more muscle that shapes your body.

4. Cycling

Cycling is another example of low-impact exercise that is effective for burning calories. You can use a regular bike or a stationary bike for this exercise.

5. Yoga

Yoga can be chosen by obese people who have not been active for a long time. Start from easy-to-follow yoga movements, then gradually try more complicated movements. In addition to increasing body flexibility, various yoga postures can also help reduce fat around the abdomen, hips, and other body areas.

Balance Exercise with Healthy Food

Exercise alone is not enough to lose weight in obese patients. Apart from exercise, the most important thing is to maintain a diet and pay attention to nutritional intake. Reduce high-calorie foods and get nutrients from a variety of healthy foods.

To get the ideal body weight, don’t forget to consume fiber which helps digestion and increases satiety. Get fiber from vegetables, fruits, nuts, or FiberCreme that can be added to various dishes.
