How to Store Carrots in the Fridge So They Stay Fresh, Super Easy!

by | May 30, 2025 | ARTIKEL, Update

Carrots are one of the most commonly used vegetables in various dishes, from soups to stir-fries. But often, carrots stored in the fridge end up wilting or rotting before you even get the chance to cook them. To keep them fresh and long-lasting, it’s important to know how to store carrots in the fridge the right way. Curious how to do it? Let’s take a look at some simple carrot storage methods you can try at home. They’re easy to follow and will definitely help your carrots last longer!

How to Store Carrots in the Fridge

Here are some easy ways to store carrots in the fridge so they stay fresh and last longer:

1. Store Them Fresh

The first step is to make sure the carrots are clean and dry before storing. If the carrots still have green tops attached, trim them off first, as they can draw moisture from the root and cause the carrots to wilt quickly. After that, wrap the carrots in dry paper towels and place them in an airtight container.

2. Soak in Water

This method works well for peeled or cut carrots. Place the carrot pieces in an airtight container and fill it with cold water until the carrots are fully submerged. Seal the container tightly and store it in the fridge. Don’t forget to change the water every two to three days. This method helps keep the carrots crisp and fresh for up to a week.

3. Store in the Freezer

If you have a large batch of carrots that you won’t be able to use anytime soon, freezing them is a great option. Peel the carrots, cut them as needed, and blanch them in boiling water for 2–3 minutes. Immediately transfer them to ice water to stop the cooking process, drain well, then store them in freezer-safe bags or containers. Frozen carrots can last for several months.

3. Wrap in Paper and Store in a Container

This method is simple and practical. Wrap each carrot individually using paper towels or clean newspaper. The goal is to absorb excess moisture that can speed up spoilage. After wrapping, place the carrots in a sealed container and store them in the vegetable drawer of your fridge. This helps maintain their crunch and extends their shelf life.

Extra Tips to Make Carrots Last Longer

Besides the storage methods above, here are a few more tips to help your carrots stay fresh:

1. Don’t Wash Before Storing

If you’re not going to use the carrots right away, it’s best to store them dry. Washing them beforehand can speed up spoilage.

2. Keep Away from Certain Fruits

Avoid placing carrots near apples, bananas, or other fruits that produce ethylene gas. This gas can cause carrots to wilt or rot more quickly.

3. Check Regularly

Inspect your carrots every few days. If you find any that are soft or developing dark spots, remove them immediately to prevent spoilage from spreading.

4. Use Clean, Dry Containers

Make sure your storage containers are clean and dry before use. Moisture inside the container can cause the carrots to rot faster.
